Lennon Fells is a student athlete at Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton and a member of the Young Men's Service League (YMSL) Peninsula chapter. But his story of impact started long before high school.
At just 9 years old, after learning about food insecurity for the first time, Lennon didn't wait for someone else to act. He launched a fundraising campaign and raised $13,000 for the Alameda County Food Bank — proving that the size of your impact has nothing to do with the size of your age.
In 4th grade, Lennon launched Lennon's Sweetpop — a dessert-flavored popcorn business with a built-in social mission. From day one, he committed 20% of all profits to the Samaritan House, a local organization providing under-served families with essential resources. Even as a young entrepreneur, Lennon understood that business and service aren't opposites — they're partners.
Through YMSL, Lennon volunteers across a range of philanthropies — but his focus has always gravitated toward programs fighting food insecurity. He doesn't just give from a distance. He shows up.
Self Help for the Elderly (San Mateo) — Regularly delivers fresh and frozen lunches to elderly and underserved residents.
Hillsborough Harvest Garden — Volunteers at the community garden that donates fresh produce directly to the Samaritan House.
Boys & Girls Club Peninsula, East Palo Alto — Assists with Second Harvest Food Bank grocery and produce box distribution, putting food directly in the hands of families who need it.
This direct, on-the-ground work has shaped Lennon's understanding of food insecurity in a way no classroom could. He sees the need. He feels the urgency. And that's exactly why he built Fuel Their Future.
Lennon organizes community food drives that collect nutritious pregame snacks and postgame recovery fuel to support underserved youth athletes. He focuses on providing items that help with both performance and recovery — such as protein bars, electrolyte drinks, and other high-quality nutrition options.
These donations are distributed to athletes participating in programs like the Boys & Girls Club's Barry Carr Sports Leagues, where access to consistent, performance-based nutrition can be limited. In addition to providing food, Lennon also includes his Game Day Nutrition Cards, which educate athletes on what to eat and drink — when and why — so they can better understand how to fuel their bodies and maximize their athletic performance.
"What began as a donation campaign — delivering food and drinks to the local Boys & Girls Club — grew into a movement. Fuel Their Future is built on the belief that student-athletes should lead the conversation about food access, not just benefit from it."
Lennon competes in football and basketball, and knows firsthand how vital proper nutrition is for performance, recovery, and longevity as an athlete.
Inspired by his father and uncle — gifted athletes who grew up with limited means — Lennon is committed to helping young athletes like them who lack access to the nutrition they need to succeed. He's heard their stories about competing in Boys & Girls Club leagues because those programs offered free athletics to kids whose families couldn't afford club or rec sports.
After spending time watching youth basketball at the Boys & Girls Club Peninsula, Lennon was moved by what he saw — talented young athletes competing hard, without the nutritional foundation they needed to truly perform. Fuel Their Future was built to change that.
